Welcome

Welcome to my website.

_DSC0174I am a freelance writer, working for magazines in the UK and overseas. My specialist subjects are travel, hiking, sports and lifestyle but I can write on any subject in a clear and understandable manner. Read more on what I can offer on my Services page.

Born and raised in Hampshire I recently returned to live in my home county after ten years in Leicestershire, in the East Midlands. In the late 1990s I shocked my family and friends by giving up a safe 15-year local government career to be a volunteer in Uganda, East Africa. I ended up living and working in that great country for 3.5 years and met my future wife.

Since returning from Uganda I have worked for a number of charities, lived in New Zealand for two years and travelled the world. Travel is my passion and I have visited more than sixty countries on six continents. In Africa I’ve communed with mountain gorillas in Uganda, been chased by elephants in Botswana, learned how to decipher animal poo on a safari guide course, climbed a number of 4,000 metre mountains, slept under the stars in the Sahara Desert in Libya and walked up Egypt’s Mt Sinai on Christmas Eve, in the snow!

When I’m not travelling I’m exploring the UK and am invariably to be found walking up a hill taking photographs.

Follow my blog for musings on writing and probably travel and maybe, occasionally, sport.

Thank you for visiting

Andrew Lowton

PS I’ve also written two novels (thrillers) that have not yet found a publisher. Early days though as even the late Ruth Rendell took until her seventh book before being published.
